一心素食, Chinatown
In most recent visit to Yixin, their most recent dessert addition is the cold Funori.
It reminds me of the green tea jelly which used to be on the menu of Classic Lao Di Fang at its initial years of operation.
Unlike my Agar Agar Funori, their texture tasted much softer and springy, very refreshing! The fishy smell of funori was also well covered by the sweet red dates & brown/coconut sugar (sorry I can't really differentiate the exact taste) and they had blend it so well that you hardly find any traces of funori. Either to be known as funori or red dates jelly, it is a nice dessert. :-) Do try it when you visit the area...:-)
Located at a coffeeshop at 39 Temple Street, the shop is just near centre of street opp Lucky Chinatown.
Opening hours: 8am to 10pm daily

Another eatery also got Funori Jelly, am i right, can't remember, was it i read in your blog is Yes Natural or Nutri Hub or ?
I bought the Organic Veg*n Guai Ling Kuo jelly with wheatgrass from them before. But haven't try this before. In fact, Funori can be used in a more beautiful way in dessert, next time I shall blog about it.
I had the chilled herbal jelly at Lingzhi buffet.
cheers :)
Crystal?
The other shd be Yes Natural's post. But I prefer Yixin's.
Yes Natural's had soy milk on top which I don't feel is necessary.
Looking fwd to yr new post on funori...:-)
Hi, seems like the general standard has been dropping for the lao di fang in chinatown, don't know how come. Quite disappointed. Still like the "old" one but now very inconvenient for me to visit.
Each stall outlet has its selling dish, do feedback for them to improve if you find any not as good.
The Classic Lao Di Fang is just 2 MRT stations away fr Chinatown. You may alight at Dhoby Ghaut MRT, cross the street to Park Mall. Quite ok distance to sample their delicacies which still taste as good...:-)
Yes, it is me. I just discovered my seabird nest expired! :(
There is this new type - it comes with red dates, rock sugar etc, then just need to pour hot water. So using that in jelly, we might not be able to discover any seabird nest at all.
I read in a non-veg cookbook - Jade Soup with Bird's Nest, they just top/garnish with some birdnest on thick green peas soup. Nice name, good pairing and a good write up on it.
Guess, by changing it to Seabird nest (finely shredded or fine strips) and using red bean soup (which is full of goodness) or something else, it can be amazing ...
Veg eateries got to think of new ways to make things interesting ... liao ...
cheers crystal :)
There seems to have different type and grades of funori too, for e.g. there is whiter version & redder version, just like the "Xue Yan".:P
Yup ...
Read about a blog from Malaysia, they use funori for the Cuttlefish Kangkong.
And Lingzhi had Funori with lotus seed dessert.
:)
