Brownice

Glutton me who had just recovered from flu could not resist from trying Brownice from last visit to Thomson area after the activities there ended. The first flavour that I set sight on is my favourite : Dark Chocolate and I couldn't resist ordering another scoop of their Strawberry after trying.
My friends ordered the Apple Cinnamon and yes, the Mudpie.
The ice cream being vegan, without dairy tasted more to the Sorbet/Granita version.
Being taken alone, the Dark chocolate was fine but when taken together with the Strawberry flavour, the strawberry flavour overwhelmed the Dark chocolate taste.
The Dark Chocolate would had complemented better by the Apple Cinnamon which is lighter but nice as well.
The Mudpie (sorry no photo as not well taken) was better than what I remembered taken at Real Food years before and the contrast of the lighter Hazelnut chocolate verus the Dark chocolate was good. Worth trying.
It's also a good place to meet friends for a gathering so would definitely return to try more flavours.
Originally I thought my gluttoness would cause a relapse of my just recovered stomach flu but their ice-cream being vegan without dairy, did not cause a stir and I managed to survive and back to work the following day. :P

Brownice is located at Sin Ming Centre at 8 Sin Ming Road, #01-03

and it has good opening hours to 11pm Mon-Thurs & to 12am Fri-Sun!

Ru Lai Zhai Vegetarian Food

Thinking our blue-chaser class started last week, we arrived there to discover we had both made a mistake, H & I proceeded to Ru Lai Zhai for a relaxing dinner instead. Ordered their Mee Hoon Goreng & Claypot Bean curd. Well, they miraculously served both dishes just after we had placed order for drink again. Speed must be their motto. :P

The Mee Hoon Goreng tasted more like Fried Tom Yam Mee Hoon to me instead as the spicy chilli was more to the Tom Yam chilli sourness taste. The Claypot bean curd was superb, the type of braised smooth bean curd that I adore, and that brown gravy was appetising that we used to lower the Tom Yam-ness of the mee hoon. :-)

Ru Lai Zhai is located at Blk 24 Sin Ming Road corner Coffee-shop #01-51 (near multi-storey car-park).
Opens daily 8am-9pm except day after 1st & 15th of Lunar month.

Ru Lai Zhai Vegetarian Food

Decided to explore the Thomson/Shunfu estate after a visit to the area in the morning and recalled that there is this old Vegetarian stall: Ru Lai Zhai Vegetarian Food located at Blk 24 Sin Ming Road corner Coffee-shop (near multi-storey car-park) that my family used to visit often sometimes after temple visit at kmspks.

It is one of the pioneer Vegetarian stalls that sells Ala Carte Dishes.
My favourite dish then was their special "Fried Golden Dragon Fish" (sorry, may not be right name) which is Mashed potato in shape of fish fried until golden brown, very yummy, a dish which they usually prepare only on special days like the 1st & 15th of the Lunar month ...:-)

I am glad to find it still in operation in that coffee-shop but as being alone, I couldn't enjoy the popular ala carte dishes, hence I decided to order their Fried Hokkien Noddles ($3) . (Oh yes, again :P as I was looking for a good one :P )
Well, was quite surprised with their quick service which the noodles was served within 5 minutes? maybe because there wasn't a crowd then. Personally, i felt that the stock of the Hokkien noodles was good but the problem was it was not well absorbed by the noodles to make it authentic enough. But I think I will be back to try its other dishes again.
And guess what! On my way, I chanced upon a modern Vegetarian instant supply cum bookshop which sells a couple of my favourite vegetarian snacks. at the adjacent block 23A. So, you may do some shopping before or after your meal. :-)

Shun Fu Vegetarian

Revisited the stall for lunch. Much convenient now to visit via the new Circle line station: Marymount & good job by HDB on the upgrading of facilities to have sheltered linkage all the way to Shunfu Market via the HDB blocks.

For 3 dishes with brown rice, it costed $3. I like their mock cuttlefish slices which were well-cooked with dark sauce with the right texture. The fried cauliflower pieces were crispy, but one could hardly taste the cauliflower inside, the green vege, kailan, was fresh & well-cooked.
And near the lift area, there is a drink-stall that sells home-made barley drink at only $0.50. Where to find now?:P
The Vegetarian stall is located near the main entrance of the food centre facing the road/carpark at level 2 of Shunfu Market.

Shun Fu Vegetarian

There are 2 vegetarian stalls in the Shunfu Food centre, above its Shunfu market at level 2 or just behind Thomson Community Club. One sells the standard mee hoon set (which quick glance seems to have alot of those gluten products) while the other which I patroned at #02-02, near to entrance of main road, serves more variety of dishes.

However, for a quick breakfast, I just ordered their fried mee hoon & popiah. Taste wise, reasonable at a price of $2.20 lah. :-)
