Happy Life Vegetarian

Facing the road, from left corner of coffee shop, the Happy Life Vegetarian stall had moved to the right, near the drink stall. And instead of Indian Rojak, it's selling traditional Rojak & Fruit Rojak. M had been craving for Rojak so I was glad to discover it & with request to omit peanuts, the lady gave a good portion of white sesame seeds in lieu of it. It is a good portion at $3, the essential ingredient, the tau pok pieces were still crispy, the pineapple slices sweet & the sauce tasted good! Sweet & sour & yet light & fresh.
Generally I don't like white sesame seeds but the combination with the sauce is superb that M who has high standard for Rojak praised it too and we finished the pack in minutes.
Very appetising, will definitely return for more as it is hard to come across nice Vegetarian rojak nowadays.

It is located at corner coffee shop at Blk134 Geylang East Ave1, #01-229, 2nd bus stop from Aljunied Mrt. Opposite Tan Swie Hian Museum. Happy Life Vegetarian is located at the right corner, inside same coffee-shop which hosted Kwan Inn Vegetarian (KIV) for those who knew KIV better. It rests on Wednesday.

慈缘轩 (Ci Yan Xuan) Chinatown

The brown rice set is popular among the vegetarians & there is some speciality added today: Brown Rice Nasi Bryani! I like their QQ spicy flavoured brown rice, very flavorful with good variety of vegetables and the fragrant mock mutton (mushroom stem) curry accompanying it.

They also serve Baked Millet Rice for the day & it tasted like Fried Rice, soft and yet has some "Q"ness. Flavourful millet rice too, will be even more popular if  more vegetables can be given as side dish. :-P

Address: 8 Smith Street (shop house near end of Food Street)
Tel: 6225 9026 (If you want to confirm menu of the day:P)

Mavalli Tiffin Room (MTR)

After reading about Mavalli Tiffin Room (MTR) from hungryangmo.com, it revives my interest to explore Little India area again. From exit B? of Farrer Park MRT, turn left towards Serangoon Road. At stretch of shop houses opposite the Indian temple and before the next blocks of HDB, it is a small busy shop with constant flow of mostly Indian customers during my visit there.

Their Poori set is not as oily as expected and reminds me of the taste tried in India! Well-done!

Next is new trial of the strongly recommended spicy porridge ~ Bisibele Bhath.
It is cooked until very soft like congee with a slight spicy taste. Very flavourful with a pint of spiciness and curry taste, very interesting and appetizing to me. However, I do not dare to add the ghee (oil-like in the centre) which has a very strong smell.:P
It is a nice dish that I may return to try again.:-)

MTR is located at 438 Serangoon Road & closed on Mondays.

Tian Yuan Vegetarian

New menu of the day tried ~ Herbal Soup Noodles
Good portion of ingredients (as seen from picture) with well cooked soup base that A & I finished the soup base again just like when I sampled their Tomato noodles.
Worth trying again...;P

This Vegetarian Supply Shop - Tian Yuan is hidden at level 2 (#02-23) of Fortune centre, right on 2nd stretch of shops up from the escalator. It takes abit of effort to look for it but luckily it has a bright sign.

Delights at China 2013

The meals for this trip with routes to main attractions of Yungang Grottoes, Wu Tai Shan & Er Mei Shan were excellent. Almost daily 10 course Vegetarian dishes that I greatly enjoyed with the whole tour group requesting for vegetarian meals throughout the trip.
Below are some of the more representative meals recalled...
-----------------

Our taste of Rice Dumpling at China on Duanwu Festival ~ Sweet dessert instead of salty type found in Spore and Sumptuous lunch at 大同 Datong 's restaurant ~ 川釜魏道 Chuan Fu Wei Dao.

 -----------------------------------

Nice vegetarian meal at Wu Tai Shan' s 全素斋 Quan Shu Zhai Restaurant.
Pictures speak more than words...

 ---------------------------------

From Elaborate to Simplicities, some nice dishes from our dinner at foot of Er Mei Shan, Hongqi Hotel 's restaurant: 峨眉景閣 Er Mei Jing Ge

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another sumptuous spread awaited us at the 留香阁饭店 Liu Xiang Ge Restaurant near the Car-park at Er Mei Shan.

And there, we met our sugared tomato dish, I gathered the sugary way of sprinkling sugar on top of Tomato slices or Pumpkin or Yam may be a speciality around Si Chuan state.
And I love it! Wonder if the dish could be found in Singapore's Si Chuan style eateries...

---------------------------------------------

A good recharge of local snacks (RMB5~S$1) along the climb to JinDing of Er Mei Shan ~
Flour cakes, Glutinous Rice & their chewy Glutinous Corn!

----------------------------------------------------------

Cooling ice - variety Fruits flavour at the hot weather

I think our local ice-cream flavours needs to revamp to include more suppliers & variety, back to earlier days when there are more suppliers instead of being monopolised by few major ones of similar flavours. This Indian mango flavoured ice is my favourite & it comes with a plastic cover accompanied to maintain its shape & use as a container for melting ice as we eat. How considerate! We almost had ice-cream daily during the trip due to the weather & I have to resist the habit generated when back to Spore.
And price range from RMB 2-5 (S$0.4-$1) depending on venue. Very affordable.

成都耕缘素餐厅 (Vegetarian at China, Chengdu)

成都耕缘素餐厅 is where we had our final vegetarian meal of our trip that ended at China, Chengdu.  I am always glad to know of new vegetarian places in China and  it is even a vegan restaurant!
Compared to our past meals in this trip, the dishes were much delicate in size and taste but it is a good transition for us back to our much simple vegetarian meal consumption in Singapore.

Nevertheless it is still a feast with many dishes and we love their soup and especially the soup noodles of 3 colors (personally and to many, the noodles may be the tastiest among the noodles tasted so far in the trip as it is seldom finished for past meals but from the way it is cooked and the quality tasted suggested it may be made-in Taiwan noodles and I heard the owner of the restaurant is Taiwanese too).
The meal ended with dessert of cut apples & corn tooth-pick!

In this trip, the Vegetarian feast meals we had totally revamped my impression of Vegetarian food in China derived from past trips as a lonely vegetarian in non pilgrimage packaged tours. And I am so Happy with the standard of the vegetarian food compared to past packaged  tour trips', eating heartily or too heartily that my table-mates know that I am a glutton...;P

耕缘素餐厅 is located at No. 88, Beidajie St. TianShengYi centre
(opposite Si Chuan Book Fair)
成都市北大街88号1栋3单元附202号
天盛一中心(四川书市对面)

Tel: 028-61323962

And Gratitude to my table-mates for their patience in waiting for me to take photos for most meals.... Thank you! :-)))
