Kwan Inn Vegetarian Food 观音斋

It's been a long while since I visited the stall, being lured away by the various new vegetarian outlets around the region. Decided to visit it to see what's new to try there.
Its Ngian Toufu stall moved over to beside its economical rice section and special of the day is Prawn mee which I had not tried before. I regretted when it was served as it did not look appetising and with the gluten duck pieces which I don't fancy.
However, trying the soup base, I was really impressed!
It has the replicate mild prawn soup taste & the thick meehoon & noodles were different from most stalls', they were smoother in comparison. And though it was called Prawn noodles, they did not have any mock prawn ingredients except for the prawn soup taste.
I didn't mind as they replaced with many pieces of the beancurb roll that I loved. But sad thing is price also increased to $2.50 vs the old $2. The comfort is that it is still reasonable considering the hugh portion. :-)

It is located at corner coffee shop at Blk134 Geylang East Ave1, 2nd bus stop from Aljunied Mrt. Opposite Tan Swie Hian Museum.

S$2 food is a steal during this era lor!

The price of Yellow noodle for 1 little bowl cost 40cents in the wet market, if get from supermarket, it is even more expensive. Bean sprout min 30cents in wet market, previous able to get for 20 cents ...

Was watching the TV show last nite on how to make Prawn Mee (real one), no joke, looking at the different steps involved in making the chilli paste, the broth where stock is boiled for few hours, then, all the other ingredients must be fresh, even the chilli paste must use fresh ingredients to achieve the special aroma, not easy, labour intensive ...

Anyway, i really like their laksa but thinking of travelling all the way to just eat a bowl and come back, will take me 3 hours travel time, so I still haven't go there yet.

I saw that TV show too and made me more appreciative of the vegetarian prawn mee soup.

Hmm, go on a temple or museum visit tour: http://sunny-vegetravel.blogspot.com/2008/06/kong-hiap-memorial-museum.html
I think it is worth visiting but take note of its opening hours..

And pack home some bread or cakes from Yes Natural & the new Eastern Highland cake shop which is just a shop or two away from Kuan Inn Zhai.:-)

You are right, take the chance also to buy eggless cake and bread, maybe, take away some food from the Veg Thai eatery - green curry!

Cheers :)
