Kwan Inn Vegetarian Food 观音斋

Mushroom Dry Noodles at 观音斋. The fried beancurb skin mock fish slices, mushroom and vegetables are not the selling point but the well-cooked noodles themselves are, they are very "Q"!

It is located at corner coffee shop at Blk134 Geylang East Ave1, 2nd bus stop from Aljunied Mrt. Opposite Tan Swie Hian Museum.

Ying Xin Healthy Vegetarian

This new stall at the Chinatown Complex Hawker centre,
#02-005, had located its attractive banner at a very strategic location (near the escalator leading to the many vegetarian stalls such as LaoDiFang) though the stall itself is located at the other far end of the food centre. I managed to locate it only after much meandering search and it is diagonally opposite where the "Er Gu" dessert stall is.

From the menu, one can see that it is going along the healthy vegetarian concept. I ordered its Vegetarian Fish Mee Hoon Soup and its clear soup really has the fishy taste due to the generous portion of seaweed being added. It's good to know another vegetarian stall, another choice for vegetarian consumers. The stall also serves vegetarian dessert. :-)

Nice Goreng Pisang & Snacks (Vegetarian)

This is a newer stall just behind the escalator of the center food court at Basement 1 of People's Park Centre (Opp Chinatown Point), a stall away from earlier introduced Mushroom Dry Noodles vegetarian stall.

As its name, it sells a variety of fried snacks like Goreng Pisang, Fried sweet potato, Yam and Carrot cakes and Curry puffs etc. As they keep their snacks in a warmer as can be seen in picture, the snacks are still warm when you buy them. I tried their Popiah and Samosa, the skin is very crispy, a good try! They also have a specialty that combines 3 types of ingredients: yam, sweet potato and rice cake. Can give it a try when you visit the area...

Cheers:-)

Ci Neng Vegn Food at People's Park Centre B1 Center Food Court

Located at the center Food Court at Basement 1 of People's Park Centre (Opp Chinatown Point), amidst the many tour agencies, I noticed this stall is quite popular with its wide variety of dishes on its menu and its daily special.

I ordered its Mushroom Dry Noodles which came out as more like "Char Siew Noodles" with Mushrooms. The mushrooms and mock barbecue meat tasted average but I liked its pieces of "fried goose", very crispy and its noodles well-done. Not easy to find well-cooked dry noodles, so this noodles could worth a try if you miss the "wanton noodles" type of noodles. :-)

Eight Immortals (Kopitiam at Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre)

I had originally intended to visit 吾家有宝素食小站 VEGETORIUM along Pasir Panjang Road but it was closed for the day. I was kindly advised that the next closest vegetarian eatery is 4 bus-stops away from there, at the food centre near Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre.
Since I had some time to spare before my next appointment, I decided to venture there to explore new outlets.
It is there, at a corner of the food centre that I found Eight Immortals.
I decided to try their Hor Fun. It is a good choice made. :-)
It came out as traditional Cantonese style of Hor Fun with a generous portion of veges and gravy. The Hor Fun was well-fried and fragrant that stimulated me to finish the whole plate despite being without much appetite just minutes ago in the unbearable hot weather that Spore was experiencing for the day!

And guess what! I found a couple of vegetarian supplies (wholesale and retail) outlets just opposite the stall. :-)
Among them is Friendly Vegetarian that Crystal had previously recommended. And I managed to find out that they will provide delivery for on-line purchases above $80. If I am heading home, I would have bought those frozen snacks that she had earlier recommended. :P

The stall is located at a corner of the food centre facing the car-park.
The food centre is beside the West Coast Car Mart and Wholesale centre.
Opening hours: 6.30am to 3pm

Yes Natural F&B (悦意坊)

It is a rejoice to know another outlet of Yes Natural opening opposite Tiong Bahru Market. This branch at Tiong Bahru operates more like a vegetarian supermarket though the front portion of the shop carries some bread and cakes (no birthday cakes as yet but was told you could order via them). We were also told that they are considering bringing some cooked food products as well in near future which I certainly look forward to. I certainly enjoyed their baked cheese noodles. :-)

We bought their walnut cake and my non-vege family members actually praised its smoothness and softness despite without egg ingredients. What a relief... This is 2nd eggless vegetarian bakery that they managed to accept. (My favourite is Eastern Highland at Rocher Centre)

This shop is located at 58, Seng Poh Rd #01-27, opposite Tiong Bahru Market, along same stretch as 7-11. Tel: 6227 3280.

Opening hours: Mon: 9am-4pm; Tue-Sun: 7.30am-7.30pm

健康斋素食 Vegetarian Food, Hong Lim Complex Food centre

I couldn't help resist recommending their economical congee style brown rice porridge again. Though ingredients seem to have reduced from my faded memory and price increased, it still taste as good!!! The stall also serves mixed rice dishes and it is heartening to see long queues for it amongst the many famous non-vegetarian stalls at the food centre on Non new/full moon vegetarian days.

Thanks to a reader who inform me that the stall is now relocated to #01-49 (facing the market) of Hong Lim Complex Food centre after renovation. It is closed on Sundays.

Nature Vegetarian (Sin Ming Ave)

Does this look good? Its presentation is more towards the traditional dark-sauced carrot cakes that we expected. For some who like it to be slightly burnt, I guess you can request.... The carrot cake is much softer though not as springy as 一心's. But the chilli is great and added points to the dish.:-)
However, the stall serves dishes with eggs as well so if you don't take eggs, you must inform in advance. The dish I ordered above is without eggs and it proved that vegetarian carrot cakes can be as tasty and fragrant as well.

The coffee shop is located at 409 Sin Ming Ave, #02-01 (Opp Bright Hill temple) Opening hrs: 7am to 9.30pm

一心素食, Chinatown

At the request of a friend looking for nice vegetarian fried carrot cake, I was quite lucky to come across 2 stalls to recommend to her.

One is at 一心. Although it may not look dark and sweet enough as per what we usually defined as nice for fried black-sauced carrot cake, it turned out to be sweet as well for the white pieces and the carrot cake is springy!!! I would think the standard is better than alot of non-vegetarian version! :-)

Located at a coffeeshop at 39 Temple Street, 一心素食 is just near centre of street opp Lucky Chinatown, beside stretch where the new Grand court Vegetarian restaurant is. Opening hours: 8am to 10pm Daily.

一心素食, Chinatown

More noodles! The Spinach noodles is soft and smooth. I like their soup and ingredients, lots of beancurb skin and vege! The mock "ikan bilis" is nice too.
How I miss good Ban Mian! The Texture of Ban Mian is perfect, not too thick. I would think the thinner version of ikan bilis used for the spinach noodles may be more suitable for the Ban Mian and a pity they don't have those special chilli for Ban Mian which would certainly add points to it. Anyway, Cheers for another good noodles choice available! :-)

Lao Di Fang Vegetarian 老地方素食 (Chinatown Complex Hawker Centre)

I do like their Fried Hong Kong Noodles, simple with plenty of shredded cabbage, mushrooms, bean sprouts, vegetarian ham. A very big plate with a light taste that goes well with its belachan type of chilli. :-)

The stall had moved to #02-055. It had moved to a secluded area of the hawker centre. Best way to locate it is to start from the centre escalator. On left of escalator, you could easily see "MingFa Fishball stall" move to its right corner and where you may think that it is the end, you will see a poster on the wall that guides you to stalls 051-098, just dare dare walk towards direction where you thought could be leading to end, you will see another lane of stalls hidden from the human traffic. Happy exploring!!!

一心素食, Chinatown

Noticed a new noodles on their menu: Fiery Spicy(Hot) Noodles. It is basically yellow noodles in chilli soup and really fantastic on a cool, rainy day. The chilli soup is really really spicy. Ingredients included fried mock salted fish/seaweed with mock meat balls, tomatoes and vegetables. Make sure you have tissue paper with you to wipe your nose and sweat if you order this dish:-)

Located at a coffeeshop at 39 Temple Street, 一心素食 is behind 德宝点心, De Bao Dian Xin.

World Food Fair 2008 - Loving Hut

The World Food fair is currently held at Suntec City Convention centre Exhibition hall 601 & 602 from 3 Sep to 7 Sep. Look what I had found!!!

A stall by VSS! at the left corner of the hall.

Yummy, vegetarian satays, vietnamese vege rolls, curry with bread and rainbow rolls.

I tried their satay, nice! The vietnamese vege roll has the unique peppermint leave & thick mee hoon with vege, very refreshing. You must go there to support them, ok?
